A faint voice in the bathroom startles me
as I glanced at my reflection in the mirror.
She said, “You are very beautiful.”
I turn around to see a girl younger than I am with short hair and glasses.
She was a bigger girl, and from my opinion, a sad case.
Meaning, she could use some work on her appearance.
I smiled and said “thank you” with out another word I left.
Then I heard the voice in my head that scolds me, Jaylin that is my baby.
I heard this from a wise friend of mine who is old in age but young at heart.
She said to me never look down upon someone for how they look.
God says they are his children; his babies and he created them to be perfect.
With a new pain in my heart I wanted so badly to go back.
At the time my head was fogged with the lies society teaches.
Skinny it beautiful, long hair is pretty, glasses are lame.
Lies. So please forgive me; I’m sorry to the faint voice.
You are beautiful too.
You created every part of me; you put me together in my mother’s womb.
When my bones were being formed, carefully put together in my mother’s womb,
when I was growing there in secret, you knew that I was there—you saw me before I was born.
