NUMBERS – by Jaylin Noel Hair
All our lives we are labeled as a number.
On the day we are 1 day old. To the day we turn 1 year old.
As we grow older with a little more freedom we are still consumed by a number.
A number on a test. The numbers that make up our grades.
The number we are rated on social media. How old we are.
The number of friends we have.
Why does a number define the worth of a person?
Why does a number categorize someone as beautiful or ugly?
Why does a number tell us what clothes to buy?
Why does a number have so much significance to people that they become captivated with the idea.
It’s time to stand up to the numbers, and others who think it’s okay to replace a person with a number.
You are not a number.
But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
