Rock-a-Babies and Quiet Amens

IMG_9779

When I wake up, Todd has usually been up for about 20 minutes already. The house is filled with the smell of coffee, the lights are dim and it is still. He is sitting at the table preparing my oldest teen girls to head out into their day with a word from God. I get to sit and listen to this words, sip on my coffee in the quiet of the morning and thank the lord for my husband and my two oldest daughters. I pray for their day and just as I am finishing, I hear Todd say a quiet, Amen.

My sweet baby boy (2 1/2) has just moved to a toddler bed because he finally figured out he was big enough to climb out of his crib. Up until this point, He has been our best sleeper yet, but alas, now we have been forced to move him to a big boy bed.  With the change he has needed some extra time before going to bed each night. We have a rocking chair in his room and he requests to “rock a baby” because he is “cared” (scared).  I humor him because he has been so easy up until this point and I figure I’ll take the extra snuggle time.  He puts his two fingers in his mouth and holds his “B” (blanket) and we rock until we’re both half asleep.

I have never taken these two special things for granted and miss them dearly when life demands that they be replaced for just a time.  I pray that I won’t miss too many quiet amens or sweet “rock a babies.”  These are just two moments in mothering that give me pure joy.  They are simple, yet profound gifts from God.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,
who does not change like shifting shadows.”
~James 1:17~

So sweet! Malachi wraps up in that same blanket! I also love the quiet moments of the morning and the aroma of coffee before our feet hit the ground running. ~Hirra
